Hi, I would like to just add my input with regards to the baboons in the area.
Please hear me out before shooting me down…I am about to make a suggestion that has had a negative reaction when I have verbally suggested before and it was not thought out by the person shooting me down.
I understand that the baboons are raiding our areas for food because they know we have it as we have also fed them in the past and now we have to suffer the consequence.
My suggestion is that we set up a site on the mountain and get the baboon monitors to take them fresh fruit and vegetables that I am sure the grocery stores in the area can donate on a daily basis.
Surely they will then stay up the mountain? I also think they will suffer from less medical/dentistry problems as they will not be eating the wrong foods.
This could also be used as a rehabilitation exercise for the young ones, possibly teach them to forage in the wild again. Try and keep them away from as much human contact as possible so that they start fearing us again.
I think this really could work and obviously a lot of things will still need to be figured out, but the bigger picture looks a hell of a lot brighter than the picture right now.
