What does this mean for Kommetjie?

A Call For Action

  • 109 new residential houses
  • On property sizes as small as 189m2
  • Likely to be 218 new motor vehicles for Kommetjie Main Road
  • A Walled- In Security Estate with no access for Kommetjie residents
  • Which will cut Kommetjie off from the Protea Ridge forever
  • Which will be built in the Cape Floral Kingdom Protected Areas World Heritage Site
  • Which will decimate a number of endangered floral species which have been identified on the site
  • And jeopardise the expansion of the crucial Protea Ridge corridor which is the only link between the Northern and Southern sections of the Table Mountain National Park
  • And flies in the face of the Kommetjie Sense of Place

This is a highly complex and controversial application which started way back in 1997.

KRRA and Kommetjie Heritage have joined hands in fighting this application, and have decided to seek legal assistance to present our comments and objections.

What we need from Kommetjie Residents

  • We require your generous donations to pay for the legal opinion. We need to raise about R25 000 for this exercise. You can pay your donation directly into the usual KRRA bank account. Please make the reference “Protea Ridge” so we can identify your contribution for this purpose.
  • We urge you to also make comments on the proposal, by sending in an email to jenna@dougjeff.co.za. Copies of the full proposal are available for scrutiny in the library. Your comments have to be made or before 19 September.
  • We will be available on the weekend of 13 September at tables around Kommetjie with copies of our comments prepared to date. The current proposal claims that the previous report received only 13 objections from Kommetjie residents!! LOL. We would like every resident who wishes to object to look out for us over the weekend and countersign the objection. We would like there to be hundreds, if not thousands of objections.
