Become a Kommetjie Library member for great reads and a whole lot more

It always surprises me when I hear that some of our residents, new as well as long-standing, are not members of our local library! Granted, not all are avid readers, but what our library has to offer is so much more, writes Michelle de Rosnay, Friends of the Library Secretary.
As most of us know, it is an incredibly warm and friendly community space, catering for all ages, from our weekly Pram-Jams and children’s holiday programmes to our bi-monthly Book Club and newsletters.
Our Book Club is very well supported and enjoyed, whether sharing recent reads or interacting with local authors.
Our Friends of the Library group supports all the activities offered and funds raised through an annual subscription of R40, book sales, raffles and markets go towards purchasing new books, and the day-to-day running of a library.
We are excited to be having our first KomKids Market Day on 24 October 2026, which will encourage entrepreneurship combined with the creativity of our youth.
The Friends of the Library committee is keen to pursue partnerships with local businesses, such as estates agents and retail outlets, to assist with ideas and funding to increase our library membership and participation in local endeavours, and to ensure that this unique community hub remains relevant and welcoming.
To this end we would particularly welcome someone with marketing skills.
When I encourage residents to join the library and the Friends of the Library committee, or simply to pop in to meet the dedicated Library Team, I often want to borrow from (and tweak) President John F. Kennedy's famous words: Ask not what your library can do for you; ask what you can do for your library.
