Boardwalk Blues

Updated: Jun 1, 2023

Whilst out on my daily womble on the boardwalk from the west end of the catwalk to the Lighthouse the other morning, I was reminded of why it sounds like I am click-clacking my way along in a pair of stiletto high heels instead of my soft takkies. By Mr Anon A. Mouse

I first heard the thunderous sound, then felt the boardwalk shaking as a group of joggers pounded past me.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I think jogging is a great thing to do and fully understand why jogging along the coast would be first choice, but let’s be honest, the boardwalk was made for walking, not jogging (especially in groups) – it cannot withstand the constant impact.

Just about every plank is loose and many snap every week.

Even though some kind soul is constantly replacing broken planks, this is just not sustainable.

(We noticed that shortly after Mister Anon had walked the plank, the same kind soul had returned and amended them. - ed)

So dear joggers, at the risk of sounding like a whining nutter, please consider staying on hard surfaces and lets prolong the life of the boardwalk.
