The Kommetjie Residents and Ratepayers' Association (KRRA) is deeply concerned by an incident in Kommetjie yesterday that saw a security guard allegedly strike a young resident of Ocean View in the face with a pistol, which required medical attention at Fish Hoek Hospital.
The child was one of a group of three children playing in Kommetjie, who were accused of stealing a bicycle. The KRRA is investigating the incident, and calls for an immediate and thorough probe by the relevant authorities, and the security company involved.
Although the pistol was a non-lethal weapon that did not carry live bullets, the alleged assault remains an egregious abuse of power.
The safety and well-being of all individuals, especially children, is paramount, and such behaviour cannot be tolerated. We stand with the community of Ocean View and are committed to finding a swift, transparent and lasting resolution that emphases co-operation and trust. KRRA wishes to assure anyone visiting Kommetjie that we pride ourselves on being a welcoming community.
We condemn any law enforcement action that is at odds with the constitutional rights of all the people of South Africa to be guaranteed protection from unfair discrimination, and whose freedom and security are protected.

I think you should reserve comment until you’ve heard both sides of the story.
