Meeting Called to Discuss Spar Development

After at least 7 years of delay during which time KRRA has contacted developers, Spar, architects and the City with minimal or no response, we now have a set of updated plans for the proposed SPAR shopping centre just east of our traffic circle.
These are out for comment until the 21st of March 2026 as departures from the building regulations are being applied for and have to be dealt with before construction can begin.
Departures from building regulations mostly concern the entrance width to accommodate a long articulated truck off Teubes road and a decking pathway from Kommetjie road through a small seasonal wetland. Take a look at the plans bottom right.
Boundary walls length, height and form are also matters we must clarify along with safe removal of indigenous plants and several other "green" features. Parking options should be discussed too.
The public meeting arranged for 11 March at Kommetjie Primary School (time to be announced) will hopefully throw some light on the development. We have asked for a developer's representative to attend so that residents can learn how best to comment, and KRRA will share its views about the development.
Much has changed since this Spar bazaar was first mooted -- delivery motor bikes, the Imhoff farm commercial centre, talk of a shopping development in Ocean View and more. We hope the meeting will shed more light on the impact of these -- especially when viewed cumulatively with the original Spar plans.
All welcome to join in and participate.
