Comment on the planning application for parking in the old Post Office development at 12 Huskisson Way

A public notice has been issued for a planning application relating to the old Post Office site at 12 Huskisson Way, Kommetjie (Erf 2853) – specifically related to the issue of parking capacity.

About the development

The proposal is to redevelop the existing single-storey building into four storeys:

  • Two ground floor restaurants

  • Three first floor office spaces

  • Two duplex residential units on the second and third floors

Departure related to parking

The application currently open for comment concerns a departure from the City of Cape Town’s Development Management Scheme relating to parking. The site is required to have 20 spaces (including disabled access) but only 14 can be accommodated at ground level.

However, as these straddle the actual property boundaries, they cannot be counted as compliant with the bylaws, and hence the need to request a departure for the full 20 bays. This implies that the current parking situation will continue, with an additional six spaces having to be found elsewhere on the public streets.

Have your say

Residents wishing to comment on the parking departure have until 9 November 2026 to submit an objection, comment or representation to the City of Cape Town. Please note, this is the only aspect of the proposed development you can comment on at this stage.

Submissions must be made on the prescribed form, include reasons, and be received by the closing date. Forms and further information are available on the government website at www.capetown.gov.za/LandUseObjections. You can also download the form and other relevant documents found at the end of the article.

Comments can be emailed to comments_objections.southern@capetown.gov.za or submitted in writing to the relevant City district office.

KRRA is sharing this notice to make residents aware of the application and the opportunity to comment. Residents who wish to take part in the process can review the application documents and decide whether to make a submission. You can download all of the relevant
