Earlier this month, members of the Kommetjie Environmental Group and volunteers from the community spent a morning planting locally propagated Cape Flats Dune Strandveld species on the public open space off Wireless Road.

The planting is part of an ongoing effort to restore indigenous biodiversity in the area while improving habitat for local wildlife. Maximising time and energy, alongside the planting, volunteers removed several alien invasive plants, helping to create space for indigenous vegetation to thrive.

These small, practical actions make a real difference over time, strengthening the ecological health of our public open spaces and contributing to the conservation of this endangered vegetation type.

A big thank you to everyone who joined in and got their hands dirty.

If you are keen to get involved in future biodiversity restoration projects, please contact info@kommetjie.org. You can also sponsor a plant or two at R40 each, which includes site preparation and planting.
