Mandela Day: Caring for our community and environment

Mandela Day – Saturday 18 July – once again reminded us that small acts of service can make a meaningful difference. 

Across Kommetjie and Ocean View, people dedicated their time and energy to caring for people and the environment.

Beach clean up

On Long Beach, volunteers combed the sand with sieves, removing a whole lot of plastic from the beach. Ongoing effort is required to keep the beach clean so do your part when visiting it.

Green neighbours

KRRA also supported the Mandela Day greening initiative led by Ocean View’s eco-group, Boskinnes. Our contribution included indigenous plants, pots, compost, earthworms, and financial support towards food for those in need. 

We are grateful to fellow supporters Harry Goemans, SANBI, and SANParks, whose generosity helped make the initiative a success.

Indigenous planting

Kom locals dedicated their time to the indigenous plant restoration project in the open space along Wireless Road after recently completed roadworks left sections of the planting areas damaged.

The restoration team remains committed to rehabilitating the site and ensuring these valuable indigenous plants continue to thrive.
